A Story in Yokohama【 Subtitled "Longing"】-8
After graduating from high school, J worked as a club boy and so on, but eventually he became a member of a gang that controlled the southern Kanto region, including Yokohama, and began to strut around the downtown area at night. Even in the yakuza world, his street name remained J.
Yuichi passed the tax accountant's exam when he graduated from college and went to work for his father, but the relationship between the two of them continued without interruption, as they met monthly.
“There will come a day when I will be useful to you.”
Sometimes J would say that.
“Why do you say that?”
“I've got a feeling about that.”
“It's annoying to hear you say that, but I don't mind my relationship with you. It's not bad that the two of us, completely different, see each other at times like this. You don't intrude on my territory to the extent that you are stoic, and you value your relationship with me.”
“Naturally. When I enter your world, our relationship doesn't last.”
“At first, I thought you had some special reason to have a relationship with me.”
“It's not like that.”
The place where they met up changed to the terrace of the Hotel New Grand, about 50 meters away from McDonald's.
Yuichi had never paid for it.
J rose to prominence in the organization and began to run the downtown area of Yokohama himself.
When Yuichi took over the office after his father's death, the head clerk had tried to take a number of clients away from him and move to another office.
“I'm going to pack up the documents for the twenty companies I'm working on and send them to my new office, so don't touch them.”
“These are all companies that my father advised. I won't allow you to do that.”
“I don't care. The companies don't know you, new guy, but they've known me for a long time. Or what? You're offering me 30 million yen in severance pay.”
Yuichi was frustrated, but he couldn't do anything about it.
Yuichi unconsciously complained to J.
"Write down his name and address.”
“Don't do anything stupid.”
"We'll just talk. Don't worry about it.”
A few days later, the clerk appeared in front of Yuichi with an exhausted look on his face.
“I'm sorry for the trouble I caused you.”
He left without taking a single customer.
When Yuichi contacted J about the results,
He just said, "If you're okay, that's fine.”
One time Yuichi got a call from J.
"I know a club that would be interesting to go to,"
The club "Carriage Road" has a long history, and while the first and second floors are modern cabaret, the third floor is an exclusive club with a grand piano in the center of a large floor, reminiscent of the style of the Showa era.
Yuichi was introduced to a man manager and a woman in charge in a luxurious special room.
“If you find a girl you like, just tell her.”
And then, on the spot, he told the manager.
“This is Yu. Think of him as me.”
Yuichi became a regular on the Carriage Road.
He liked the glamorous but pretty face of Yui, who was a Filipina and a good singer.
“Yu-san, would you like to sing with me?”
“I... I've never sung in public before.”
“I'll teach you. Let's do a duet together.”
Accompanied by the piano, they practiced Endless Love, Yui's favorite song, many times together.
“Yu and Yui, endless love.”
Yui said and winked at him.
Eventually, after spending time at the club, he began to take her out.
There was only one condition that responsible woman gave him about playing with the girls.
“It doesn't matter which girl you choose, but please make sure you come to this club before you play with her.”
In the beginning, when Yuichi was about to pay the bill, the manager said.
"There’s no need to pay for it."
“Why?” Yuichi asked.
"I was told by my boss to treat him and you in the same way."
And he wouldn't accept it.
Yuichi tried to talk to J about payment.
“You don't have to talk about accounts,'” he said.
“But it would be embarrassing not to pay it when I'm out there alone.”
“That club is mine. Don't worry about it.”
As Yuichi kept quiet, J whispered.
“I've already had it”
"What do you mean?"
"It's nothing. I'm talking to myself."
